DONE BY US launches The Africa Street MBA to provide an integrated business support for start-ups and small businesses.
Done By US, a consultancy and investment firm in collaboration with KGL Foundation on Tuesday, 24th January, 2023 launched a maiden business enterprise initiative dubbed “Africa Street MBA” geared towards providing the needed support for the youth and youth led businesses in the area of enhancing their entrepreneurial skills. The launch, which took place at Tomreik Hotel, East Legon in Accra Ghana was well attended by key players in Ghana’s entrepreneurial eco-system such as the Ghana Enterprises Agency.
The Africa Street MBA program seeks to impact young people with world class business knowledge based on top MBA curriculum and entrepreneurial course content.
The founder of Done By Us and programme chair of the Africa Street MBA, Mr. King A. Wellington, revealed at the media launch that the Africa Street MBA program will provide an integrated business support for start-ups and small businesses through capacity building, mentorship, business development services and funding for young entrepreneurs with innovative ideas or early-stage ventures. He added that “the programme will support ten thousand youth across the country”. Mr. Wellington further stated that “most of the youth lack support and finances, hence the need to put together a program to help them.” He indicated that the initiative would create jobs, and develop consensus in communities to reduce the unemployment rate in the country. Again, he used the opportunity to encourage the youth in the country to participate in the program for maximum impact in order to change the status quo of the state.
Also present at the media launch was the main partner for the Africa Street MBA, the KGL Foundation. The programmes manager of the KGL, Mr. Nii Ankonu Annorbah-Sarpei said the partnership between Done By US and his outfit will help drive and impact the youth particularly women with little education to break and overcome business challenges by establishing their own enterprises and other job openings and opportunities. According to him, the programme will enable the youth to be self-independent to enable the youth to run their enterprise successfully through a well-structured business development programmes.
The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), Mrs Kosi Yankey Ayeh in a speech read on her behalf by Ms. Samira Hussein said government will continue to partner the private sector as part of the commitment to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for the socio-economic development of the country. According to Ms. Samira Hussein, such support rapidly creates jobs for the youth and reduce the burden of employment in the formal sector saying SMEs must engage government for capacity building and access microcredit for their respective businesses through the required applications. “SMEs have played significant roles in job creation as 85 percent of employment opportunities are from the informal sectors”, she said, adding that GEA has put in place the needed resources and the mechanisms to enhance their operations for economic growth.
